In the first lesson about InDesign we were taught about the basics of the program, specifically type placement and how to properly place and edit images in a magazine layout.
For the copy in the magazine we experimented with kerning, guttering, leading and drop cap to create a smooth block of text.
When placing the images we were taught how to cut an image out of it's background just as we could do in Photoshop as using this technique is a quick fix for anyone not looking to switch between programs.
The only drawback of having the program to cut out the image for you is that you will have to choose an image which has a clear background contrast to the subject of which you want to cut. To test this technique we used the image of the parrot. After we were shown how to wrap text around the image, moving the image and tightening the text to create a smooth outline.
